Show Father Tabb Dead. Father John B. Tabb, the poet-priest, who, in the early fall, was stricken blind, died last Friday at St. Charles college, where for many years he was professor of English literature. He was nearly 70 years old. Born in Virginia, Father Tabb served in the confederacy with Sidney Lanier, with whom he was very friendly. After the war he entered the ministry of the Episcopal church, later becoming a Catholic priest. His rare poetic gifts were early recognized, and his "Poems" are considered among the most successful issued in America in years. After being stricken blind. Father Tabb continued his writings. Some of his best gems were written after aft-er he was afflicted. |
