Show Death of Rev. W. Walsh, P. P. Great regret was caused in Kilkenny on Friday when the news was received that the Re v. Water -. Walslr, P. P., Ballyhale, had succumbed . to injuries received on Christmas eve.. It appears that the reverend gentleman was driving driv-ing to his own residence on that evening, even-ing, and.-his horse stumbling he was thrown -Violently to the ground. The injuries- he received were very serious, but it w"as. fondly hoped that his vig- brous frame and fine constitution would enable him to pull through, and his! death has come as a great shock to j those w ho knew and loved him. He i was one of the most popular and patri- 1 otic priests in the Diocese of Ossory, and his appointment some years ago to the pastorate of Ballyhale was hailed in Kilkenny with delight that his great piety and single-minded devotion de-votion to the interests of the Church and love.1, for.- its people should have been recognized by the. venerable Bishop Bish-op of the diocese, while at the same time that delight was not unmingled with regret that such a good priest should .be. lost to the .parishioners of St. Caniee's, amongst whom he had lived and labored for some years. As becomes a true Soggarth Aroon, Father Fath-er Walsh .was ever foremost in every popular and national movement. He was president of the Ballyhale branch of. the United Irish league, and about two months ago presided at a great national na-tional demonstration held in Ballyhale, which was addressed by Mr. Joseph Devlin.-M. P., and Alderman Joyce, M. P. The funeral takes place on Sunday, after last mass. |
