Show j Death of Very Rev. M. A. Cavanagh, 0. S. F. Our correspondent writing from Drogheda on Friday says: "I regret to record the death of the Very Rev. Michael Aloysius Cavanagh, ! ex-provincial of the Franciscan order, which took place on Friday at the j convent of his order in Drogheda. The death of this revered priest, who was ! widely known and dearly loved in this j his native town, has cast a gloom of sadness over the entire Catholic com- I munity of Drogheda. Father Cavanagh, Cavan-agh, though In failing health for some time, discharged his share of the community com-munity duties up till last Tuesday. On I Wednesday morning when getting up he had an apoplectic seizure, which, despite all that medical skill could do, proved fatal. The deceased, whose parents were natives of Duleek, was born in Drogheda on the 27th of March, 1829, the day before the foundation stone of the present Franciscan church, In which h ministered for nearly fifty fif-ty years, was laid, re joined the Frai:. ciscan order in his boyhood's years, and made his novitiate in St. Isidore's, Rome, where in 1S54 he was ordained a priest." |
