Show DEATH OF SISTER ANZELMA. Sister Mary Anzelma of the Sisters 5f the Holy Cross died on June 4th. at ?t. Mary's Notre Dame where she had :aken the veil years before. Sister Anzelma was known in the world as Catherine McCarthy. She was born ji Ireland in 1827, received the habit j i 1S."5, and was professed in 1857. During the civil war. Sister Anzelma iv;is one of the devoted band of Sisters iv hu nursed the wounded of the north nd south, with the skill and tender kindness for which the good Sisters tre always noted. After the war she ias transferred to Dakota where she remained for many years, doing hos-lital hos-lital work. It is. twenty years since Sister Anzelma Anzel-ma came to this city to the Holy i'ross hospital, whfie she labored until un-til nine years ago when she went with many other pioneer Sisters to the Mother house in Indiana. Words are powerless to tell 'of the Massed ness of her noble life: eyes trow dim and hearts sore with the :endr memories of the saintly soul, ivho;-e entire life was one of sacrifice ind piety. She combined with the boliueps of her vocation a practical, business sense that won the respect of ( ill who knew her as well as their love. lie was not the solemn, cloistered nun 'f fiction, but a sensible tenderhearted tender-hearted woman of great faith, sincere nmiility. edifying piety, and broad loving charity. Though away from the world, she tiiew of life's sin, sorrow, grief and DHin. but she was always ready to :hrw the mantle of charity around ibe sinful, over ready to spread th (spirit of Jesus abroad to saint and tinner. Many an erring one has peacefully peace-fully entered death's valley comforted ft-ith her words of love "and hope: many trembling hands folded quietly !!or eternal rest over the crusifix she so ;enderly held. And now her dear iands are stilled forever; her dear face :s soiie and were it not for the lone-itness lone-itness in the hearts of those who loved ner there would be only joy that the beautiful soul has gone to her true I aome. The memories of her holy life I nil! ever linger in the hearts and 1 vinds of those who loved her. She I las pone to join the other treasured I lend Sisters around whose souls is inrely unfolded the eternal bliss of the ! Everlasting Kingdom. A dear old saint nas gone to her reward and may her rest be sweet. |
