Show j Legioneers Hold i Annual Election At the annual election of Officers i of Gunnison Guard Mount, post 104, American Legion, held Tuesday evening. eve-ning. Sidney J. Maxtor was the choice of the organisation for post ocm-! ocm-! mander for the ensuing year, other i officers elected were Roy Madsen, j post adjutant; C. T. Hoff; secretary; j Hex Kearns, treasurer. Various committees com-mittees were named to carry out plans mapped for the coming season. The financial report, submitted by F. H. Jones, retiring treasurer, was also read. Several social functions were staged by the members of the local order during the past year, but lack of interest, both through some of the members and the citizens, was the cause of the poor financial showing show-ing of the post. The coming year, however, it is proposed to instill more enthusiasm, and it is intended to create more interest. At the meeting meet-ing it was shown that throughout the United States the American Legion Is widely supported by the citizens and, too, the members are deeply engrossed in the work and through the combination other Legion organizations organ-izations are flourishing and are able to afford suitable club rooms where the members can meet in executive sessions and for pleasure and recreation.. recrea-tion.. A survey made of the ex-service men throughout the valley and adjacent ad-jacent to Gunnison shows that there are fully 5 0 who are eligible to membership mem-bership to the Gunnison post. Shortly Short-ly a membership' campaign will be launched and it is proposed to enlist all the former service men, and this accomplished and the proper spirit foremost, together with the moral and financial support of every citizen in the valley, the local order will rank with some of the best in the country. The matter of dues was also discussed dis-cussed and it was decided that none would be assessed for local purposes at this time. The state and national dues $1 for each, are now payable to the newly elected treasurer, Rex Kearns. |
