Show Largest Registration In History of Gunnison Tho registration for the coming election to be held in Gunnison next Tuesday is the largest ever recorded in any previous electic.'! held here. When the registrars closed their '' books at nine o'clock Tuesday night, the last day of registration, the hurried hur-ried count was made and the total registration for the two district;; showed 532 voters. Of this number 278 were recorded on the 14th and 2Sth of this month, the balance having hav-ing been on the great register since the previous election. Tuesday was a busy day for the workers of the different parties and from early morning until just before the books were closed, voters were urged to get their nnmes on the list. There were slight infringements, il was reported, on the law regarding the hauling of voters to the places of registration. The law which is intended in-tended to prevent corruptness, prescribes pre-scribes a penalty of a fine of from $25 to $1,000, together with imprisonment. impris-onment. The law not only applies to carrying voters to register but to voting polls as well. In district number one. where Albert Al-bert Swain acted as registrar, 7 9 new voters were registered last Tuesday. The ten that were registered on the 1 4 tli of this month brought the total of new voters up to 89. In district 2, with Reuben Christensen as register regis-ter agent, 5 9 registered on Tuesday and with the two on the 14th, showed show-ed the total new registrants for this election to bo 61. That the contest for the respective otlices is to be keen is evidenced by the diligent work being done by the party workers. Thus far very little "nasty" work is being done and the conservative element is urging that the contest be clean and devoid ol "m ud -slinging." In district No. 1 the voting booths will be established at the Palmer & Roper pool hall and John P. Jensen. Erwin Roberts and Joel Erickson have been appointed as judges. The voters of district. No. 2 wil vote at the oilice of the Gunnison Commission company and J. H. Fer-re, Fer-re, Oscar Anderson and Andrew Jensen Jen-sen were selected to act as judges foi this precinct. Anderson and Jensen however, have declined to accept the appointment, according to well founded reports, and it is likely thai the vacancies will be filled on the morning of election. |
