Show ! Is the Water System of Gunnison the Issue of the Campaign? If so, it is well that the voters and taxpayers j of Gunnison become familiar with the TRUE j status of affairs. The following comprehensive comprehen-sive article, touching upon the situation, has been compiled from the City Records. Read It Carefully: Audit the coining cily election and inasmuch as the Citizens party managers are making the "Water System" of Gunnison the only issue of their campaign, a comprehensive report of the exact status of affairs has been compiled for benefit of those who do not know and for those to whom misrepresentations have been made in the evident hopes of "misleading" the voters. The records are absolutely authentic, and are of the records of the city of (iunnison. When the city decided upon the water Improvement, bonds to the amount of $17, '200 was voted. The bonds voted must be met and paid for not later than I'J.'iO. Under the slate statutes the city was required to create a sinking fund by the eleventh year following the bond issue. The sinking fund, the law says, must be one-tenth of the total amount of the bonds, or $1,720. The interest on the bonds, the yearly amount of which is $8G0, must be provided for. With the yearly sinking fund, together with the interest, the taxpayers tax-payers arc confronted with an initial yearly payment for the remaining nine years, of $2,580 which' must be provided for according to the law. It can plainly be seen that any sum less than $12, the amount now charged each year for water users, would be insufficient to meet the obligations of the city, in so far as the water indebtedness is concerned, for at this rate the city would receive approximately $2,892 for the 1921 rentals. ' The yearly water taxes will amount to approximately $1,000, and after setting aside the amount necessary for the sinking fund and providing pro-viding for the taxes, about $1,300 would remain for operating expenses, material and replacements. Another consideration ihat is of vital importance is -the fact that the system is now many years old and it necessarily follows that it is I U. S.
