The first question of a person who might bo contemplating the investment of money here, would be, "What of your city government? In whose hands is it?" With the Governor of the state, the Mayor of this city and a majority of the Council all Mormons, admitting that they are all good men, how long would it be before be-fore any one from abroad would Invest money here? Again, waiving all that, Mr. Knox is President of a great bank, he Is known in every great flnan cial circle in the East, by his position alone peo pie would respect his opinions and seek his advice ad-vice on every subject pertaining to the material interests of this state. We think Mr. Morris is a first-rate, honest and capable man, but he is quite unknown outside of this city. Every dispassidn-ate dispassidn-ate voter, Republican or Democrat, will see at a glance what the difference would be to the city were one or the other candidate elected. In the next two years everythingpoints to a healthy growth for Salt Lake City. On no one man will depend so much the immediate direction of the business of the city as upon the Mayor. It is in the hands of the people and we "say without prejudice preju-dice that if they ele"t a man to that position, a gentleman unknown beyond the street corners of the town, it will be a notice that they are satisfied to let things drift as they have been drifting and do not want anyhing done to electrify the business of the city. |
