I got a report from Mike and Cookie Riffel that a predatory mountain lion is in the area just north of town and seems to be subsisting on the local cats in the area. Cookie said they keep a number of cats to take care of their mouse problems, and more than 10 other mother cats; some with kittens, have disappeared recently. Mike and Ron Mulcahy are farming some ground north of town and they found a half-eaten carcass of one of the cats and plenty of large tracks around it, so there was little doubt of what had happened hap-pened there. They felt that the people here in town should be made aware of this so they could keep their pets indoors at night and. also watch their young children chil-dren to keep them safe. Launa West came from her home in Salt Lake City and spent the weekend here with her parents, Howard and Dorothy Leavitt. Suchie Sorensen called to report that on Thursday she went to Salt Lake City to attend a "going away" party for her daughter, Sheila and son-in-law. He has been offered a job in Omaha, Neb. They hope to be able to come up here and spend a few days but after the heat wave we have been suffering through, I am not sure they will get much physical comfort from the change. |
