Show Recap Of 1998 We continue our recap and brief summary of the events of 1998 that filled the pages of the Garfield County News. It's always interesting interest-ing to review recent history as it relates to today's events. OCTOBER Fire Station Work was underway on the new Panguitch Fire Station. The new facility was approx. 5,520 square feet with bays for two ambulances and four fire fighting pieces of equipment. Foundation Dinner The annual Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation Dinner was a huge success where more than 150 community residents enjoyed delicious food, friends, and door prizes. EMT Fundraiser The Garfield County News started a fundraiser for the local Emergency Medical Technicians, who were planning to attend a conference con-ference in Salt Lake City in November. No-vember. Panguitch Baseball The PHS Bobcats captured the 1-A State Baseball Title in Orem after beating Wendover for the state championship. PILT Payments Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt announced that the Interior Department sent payments for 1998 totaling almost $119 million to 2,327 local government units across the United States in accordance accor-dance with the PILT Act. Garfield County received $203,556. Deer Hunt Opener Hunters got ready for the opening open-ing of Utah's 1998 general buck deer hunt season on Oct. 17, where increased numbers of deer awaited them through most of the state. Unemployment Unemployment rate performance was mixed in Utah's Western Region Re-gion during August according to a Department of Workforce Services Report.
