Show A18 Castle Valley Review, March 2009 Rebecca Walsh to be Keynote Speaker During Conference Rebecca Walsh, a Salt Lake Tribune columnist, will keynote the College of Eastern Utah’s 30th annual Women’s Conference on April 3 at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. The theme of the event is, “Then and Now – 30 Years of Celebration.” Keynoting the morning session is Helper sculptor Karen Jobe Templeton who designed and constructed the Crandall Canyon Mine Memorial in Huntington. Participants will have 11 workshops they can attend during the daylong event. Workshops include Sherri Mills talking about her book, “I Almost Divorced My Husband, I Went on Strike Instead;” Pam Sharp, “Marketing Your Home Business to Make More Money;” Elaine Wood, “Knowledge is Power, Putting Finances in Place Before the Worst Happens;” Jan Thornton, “Body Image and How it Affects You;” and Jennifer Carr, “De-stressing Your Life With Yoga.” Another author, Lori Akers, will discuss “Women in the 21st Century,” while the Zion’s Bank Women’s Financial Group provides information on “Women’s Financial Independence,” Dr. Karen Radley, “You and Your Skin: a Look at Skin Damage, Aging, Cancer and Laser Therapy;” Carol Castleberry, “Wills and Trusts;” Hank Savage, “Growing Beautiful Flowers and Vegetable Gardens in Southeastern Utah;” and Marie Bryner Bowles, “Taking Awesome Digital Photos.” After lunch, the Outstanding Woman of Southeastern Utah will be named. USDA Extends Comment Period on Payment Limitations The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency in Utah announced Feb. 11 that following Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s announcement that the comment period for the regulation defining actively engaged participation in a farming operation has been extended for an additional 60 days, FSA is seeking a diverse range of comments from different areas of the United States and farming communities. With this extension, the public may continue to submit comments until April 6. The extension document is available at http://www.fsa.usda. gov/FSA/federalNotices?are=h ome&subject=lare&topic=frdii. The regulation, published Dec. 29, invited comments on the interim rule for implementation of key eligibility requirements for many FSA and Natural Resources Conservation Service programs. Approximately $30,000 is in the account for the industrial park and the county commission agreed unanimously on Feb. 24 to close the account and distribute the funds in a 50/50 split with Huntington City and Emery County, as per the original agreement.
