Show HOLIDAYS MAKE LONG WEEK-ENDS This year, five of the major national holidays fall on a Saturday Sat-urday or Monday,, making long weekends for "trippers. " New Year's Day was on a Saturday; Memorial Day is on Monday, May 30; Independence Day is on a Monday, July 4; Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 5; Christmas is on Sunday, Dec. 25, therefore Monday, Dec. 26, is observed as a holiday. The other holidays observed nationally are Washington's birthday on Tuesday, Feb. 22 and Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 24. Other dates shown "in the red" on some calendars are Lincoln's Lin-coln's birthday, Saturday, Feb. 12; Columbus Day is Wednesday, October 12 and Veteran's Day, Friday, November 11. Arbor Day is a state holiday observed in late April. |
