Show Hunting criticized Dear Editor, Autumn is the loveliest time of year, also a sad time for animals and the people that care about them. Soon, the bullets will fly and the blood bath begin. This isn't done for survival. The latest excuse is "hunting gets in your blood," We have a Division of Wildlife Resources that is nothing more than a hunting club. Animals to them are only job security from the sale of licenses and permits. The animals are for targets. Hunting is destroying destroy-ing animals, not "good conservation." conserva-tion." Did you know the Reagan era started a predation control law, under USDA control? Last year cruel kill methods, including denning, denn-ing, grappling hooks, cyanide, burning, burn-ing, aerial and ground shooting, steel jaw trapping, etc. were used to kill thousands of wild animals, and over five hundred companion animals. This year their budget rose from nineteen million to twenty-nine million of our tax dollars. We are forced to be a part of this slaughter. Why? Stockmen! They aren't satisfied with devastation of millions of grazing acres and to L them practically free. They are also paid for predation, because they won't take responsibility to protect their herds. Soon, no more wildlife, except deer and elk to sell licenses to hunt. This predation control should be stopped, now. In addition, we have the DWR encouraging animal hunting and trapping, even through our public schools. Of course, the NRA pushes . these cave man practices and the "right to bear arms" baloney. We are also shooting each other at the rate of over 25,000 human deaths a year. But, the helpless and voiceless animals don't have a chance. We should speaK up and say "enough." We're supposedly stewards for the animals. Other countries protect their wildlife. We are the richest country, what is our excuse? A man can take a loaf of bread, and he's called a thief. Yet, another man can kill one of God's most beautiful creations and he's called a sportsman. This is a sad commentary commen-tary for the human race. Leigh Engelbrecht Bountiful |
