Show p you 7-Up Before Breakfast Ten-year-old Jack came to the breakfast table "off his feed " Mother and father persuaded and coaxed. Jack said "I believe I can drink a bottle of 7-Up." "No" thundered father. "Why not" said mother, "it won't hurt him." After drinking his bottle of 7-Up Jack started to nibble and made a pretty good breakfast of it. Some days later father called from the bathroom: "I'm off my feed and don't want any breakfast." ' Jack said "Mamma, take hi n a bottle of 7-Up." '"" - ment: t I have four main rea-I rea-I y . sons why I should like - s"" , 'i to be a member of the r law-making body at this ui Ji t coming session, of the Utah Legislature LEON FONNESBECK mSsaBBmlsmaa FIRST I am very anxious to have the segregated tax system, commonly known as the Virginia Tax System, adopted in this State. The segregated tax system, sys-tem, eliminates all real estate and tangible personal property from any State tax, and leaves this fieldj for local taxing units, such as cities, counties, local ' echool districts. It is the only system which gives real sstate any substantial relief. This system will also ;liminate the unnecessary duplication of authority and expense which now exists between the local taxing tax-ing authorities and the State Tax Commission, for it eliminates the State Tax Commission so far as real estate and tanglible personal property is concerned, and thereby many thousands of dollars of unnecessary, state expense will be saved to the taxpayers. SECOND there are some statutes with reference to the rights and powers of cities and towns which need to be strengthened and clarified. For example the right of a city to shut off the city water, where the owner or tenant has failed or refused to pay, and refusal re-fusal on the part of the city to turn the water back on, until all back water rentals are paid. Logan City; has claimed this right for the past eleven years under City ordinances built on an old statute. That right of, Logan is now being challenged in Court. It is very important in the interest of the City water department depart-ment that this old statute be amended and clarified, so as to clearly give that right to cities. THIRD I am a member of the Legislative Committee Commit-tee of the Utah State Municipal League. This organization organ-ization sponsored my nomination, and is desirous of my being in the Legislature this winter to assist in the enactment of its Legislative program for the pro-tection pro-tection and benefit of the municipalities of our State. FOURTH The expense of our State government has grown by leaps and bounds, until it has practically doubled the last 20 years, and is now in the excess of $27,000,000.00. I believe every tax payer is in favor of having this enormous expense reduced. If elected, I shall do all in my power to reduce this expense by reducing and abolishing many commissions and officeholders office-holders who are really unnecessary, but constantly increase the force in their offices, and thus continually contin-ually add to the burden and expense of the tax payer. The primary law is intended to give the people the right to make their own choice. This privilege should be jealously guarded and exercised by every citizen going to the polls on primary election day, September 13th, and casting his or her vote for the man or woman whom the voter believes is best qualified, quali-fied, and will carry out the wishes arid desire of the people.
