Show Four More Enter Garland Pageant - PLEASANT AND COOPERATIVE Donna Reeves has been selected as Credit Girl of the month by the Credit Rating Bureau, because of her helpfulness and pleasant attitude. Four more girls have entered the Miss America pageant held as part of the Garland Wheat and Beet Day celebration. The queen and her attendants will reign over the celebration, Aug. 3, 4, and 5th. The scholarship pageant will be held Thursday, August 3. at the Bear River High School auditorium. The Garland Civic and Home Arts club sponsors the event. The latest entries are Jayna Davis, Jane Ferry, Cindy Brough, and Barbara Nicholas. Jayna is a socialogy major at Ricks college and plans to begin training to be a stewardess next spring. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davis of Tremonton. Jayna graduated from Bear River High school where she was a member of the a capella choir, pep club and a four-yea- r graduate of the LDS seminary. She attended Ricks college this past year where she was a member of the program bureau and was a candidate for the Miss Ricks title. She plans on attending Brigham Young University next fall. Her hobbies and talents are singing, playing the piano and guitar, horseback riding, water skiing and sewing. Jayna was chosen as one of the attendants to Miss Wheat and Beet Days last year. For her talent number she will play a piano solo, Musical Moods. Her sponsor is Evans Drug of Garland. Donna Reeves from the Hamilton Drug office has been selected as the Credit Girl of the Month, according to Richard Wheatley of the Credit Rating Bureau. The secretaries of the Credit Rating office select the woman who has been the most helpful to them during the month. We take up a lot of their time with calls concerning accounts, said Lila Coburn of the Credit Rating Bureau. So we decided to pick one girl each month whom weve bothered the most 'and who has been the most .... i cooperative and pleasant. Mrs. Reeves is a native of Brigham City and has been in the Hamilton office for about nine years. She has also worked in the Hamilton stores. Prior to her job with Hamiltons she worked at Bobs Drug store in Brigham City. She is the wife of Gordon Reeves, 106 North Fourth West. The Reeves have three children and six grandchildren. Mrs. Reeves enjoys her work, but in her leisure hours she enjoys gardening, golfing and sewing, especially for her grandchildren. , Jane Ferry In Box Elder County Nurse Retires After 1 8 Vesrs After serving in Bear River valley as a public health nurse for the past 18 years, Mrs. Inez Deem will now find other ways to spend her time. She retired June 30. Being a public health nurse requires a speical type of person. One who works in blizzards as well as in 100 degree temperatures. She deals with the young and the old. She visits in the lower and upper middle class areas. A nurse assists her patients to try and care for themselves or with a member of the family assisting whenever possible. She recommends hospital care when needed. Mrs. Deem is a person who has enjoyed giving service in each of these ways. Born In Colorado Born in Manassa, Col., she graduated from Oakland High the school and attended University of Utah. her She interrupted schooling to fulfill an LDS misssion ot the eastern states. After returning, she entered the Samuel Merritt Hospital School of Nursing in Oakland, Calif., followed by postgraduate studies in Los Angeles County hospital. She was employed with the public health department in San Matio, Calif., and was a county registered nurse in both California and Utah. She married Harvey L. Deem on Aug. 23, 1938. They have one daughter and one son. LaRay is employed by the family service division in Salt Lake county. James H. Deem and his wife live in Ogden where he is attending Weber State college. The Deems moved to Garland in 1952 where they purchased a farm and established a permanent home. Activities Cited Among Mrs. Deems activities are service as president of the San Matio County Nurses association. She completed the National Security seminar conducted by the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Logan, the Utah civil defense course at Camp Williams, assisted with the cancer detection clinic held in Tremonton where over 300 ladies participated. She has worked with the state rehabilitation service, the Red Cross, served as president of the Box Elder chapter of the Utah Mental Health program, directed amblyopia clinics, and worked with the Head Start program and the council of aging. In addition she served as a leader with the 4 H for 11 years and is an ardent genealogical worker. She graduated from Bear River High school this spring where se served as junior class Barbara Nicholas More than three dozen sheep were stolen from a Collins ton pasture recently and Box Elder county sheriffs deputies are continuing an investigation into the theft. A total of 40 head of sheep were reported missing by Wynn Hansen, Fielding, according to Sheriff Warren W. Hyde. Sheriff Hyde said deputies were mystified with the case because there are no tracks in or out of the pasture.
