Show ONE YEAR IN A CALIFORNIA JAIL Sam Cline, who assisted in the prosecution of the two fake dry goods merchants who in- vaded Milford some months since with a one-day stand with a large stock of goods, has re- ceived word that each of the fakers was fined $1,000 and given one year in the county jail in Los Angeles. The men, it is said, obtained their stock of goods under false pretenses and instead of estab- lishing a business in a certain town, removed the goods from the Golden State to various one- day stands in Nevada and Utah before they were caught. The San Francisco Board of Trade spent $1,800 to bring the men to trial and conviction. Four hundred dollars of that amount was spent for telegrams. The men gave their names as Sam Weisbach and D. Gerber. Their conviction was secured in a Los Angeles court. A |
