The Black Hawk Indian War veterans committee, met at the library' li-brary' Wednesday evening to' discuss" dis-cuss" plans for their annual entei-tainment entei-tainment this month, the time and form of which will be announced later. Juvenile Judge Joseph E. Nelson, Nel-son, national executive committeeman committee-man of the American legion, gave an interesting talk on "Legislature" "Legisla-ture" at a conjoint meeting of the Legion and auxiliary here Wednesday Wed-nesday evening. Miss Norma Harrison Har-rison and Mrs. Tess C. Packard entertained with a reading and a dance selection, respectively. Music for the evening was furnished by Roe McCurdy, Dick Conover, Wil-ford Wil-ford and Merrill Gottf redson. Clarence Smith, Timothy Marsh and Charles Johnson of Provo. Following the regular meeting, luncheon was served at small tables, and later cards were enjoyed. en-joyed. Approximately fifty members mem-bers and guests attended. Over sixty members mem-bers and guests attended. John Leavitt of Provo, Owen Rowland and Thales Brown entertained during dur-ing the evening with instrumental music; Mrs. Leo Robertson and Mrs. Gene Miner gave readings. R. A. Mr. and Mrs. Vera Bird will visited in Springville the past week and in Salt Lake where Mrs. Bird appeared as soloist in the rendition of the "Messiah", have returned to their home at Beverly Hill3 Calif. They were accompanied by Mr. Bird's mother, Mrs. A. C. Bird who will visit in California for several sev-eral weeks. The" Alpha Beta club members With their partners entertained nt a party' Friday evening at the fire hall complimentary to Mr. and Mrs. Grant Crandall formerly of the club. During the evening of progressive games, Kenneth Condie won high score favor and Mrs. Kenneth Condie, the consolation. A basket luncheon featured the party with thirty-six members and guests present. The Ladies' Litorary club will meet Saturday, January 14, with Mrs. Hannah Callister. All are asked to be present at 2 o'clock. In celebration of their sixteenth wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Clegg entertained a number num-ber of friends at dinner at their home Tuesday evening. Later cards were enjoyed. Hardy Averett of this city, celebrated cele-brated his seventy-fifth birthdav anniversary last Thursday evening with a surprise party given by relatives rela-tives and friends at his home. Cards and a delicious luncheon featured fea-tured the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Sol Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. John Averett, Mr. and Mrs. E. O, Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Averett, Mr. and Mrs. Norris Averett, Mis. Hardy Averett, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Al-bert Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Strong, Mr. and Mrs. George Averett, Aver-ett, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mason of Aurora, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Fullmer, Full-mer, Mr. and Mrs. Will Child and Miss Leona Averett present. Mr. Averett was born in Springville Spring-ville and has always lived here. He has followed the occupation of carpenter, having built many of the early homes of the community. He married Elizabeth Parry in the Nana Lee Reynolds, assisted by Miss Virginia Chllds, entertained at a delightful birthday party for a number of little friends at her home, Saturday afternoon. Games and refreshments were enjoyed by Pauline Claudin, Helen Brinton Dorene Thyrett, Dona . Hatch, Gloria Hutchinson, Norma Nell Straw, Dick Crandall, Russell Groesbeck, Bobby Hobb, Russeil Gene Hales, Carl Brimhall, Joe Cranmer, and Hal Christensen. The Third ward Relief society held their monthly work meeting and social Tuesday afternoon. Two quilts were quilted and carpet rags sewn. The program included: Cornet solo, Frank Butler, accompanied accom-panied by Nelda Johnson; piano solo, Mary Witney; reading, Millie Sutherland; singing, led by Mattie Henderson, accompanied by Mar-jorie Mar-jorie Bird, " reading, Lou Binks; a talk on home extension work, Martha Brimhall.
