Show SATED CITY FIRST NATIONAL BANK BUILDING WAS IN FLAMES a when patrolmen turned in the alarm and rashed to the edep gency fire apparatus fram wednesdays standard prompt action on the part of merchant patrolmen and sulu van and the fire department probably saved ogden from a disastrous fire shortly before 4 ahta morning mr noticed smoke issuing from the third floor p the first national bank building he at once turned in an alarm and entered the building to investigate the balls were bullof emoke but making his way to the third floor he found tha office occupied by A A wenger in flames and the content burning rap idly mr ancock ran to the auxiliary fire hose and by the time the fire department arrived had a stream of water playing on the flames As goon as the department got into position lines were run to third floor and with the assistance of the chemical the blaze was soon under control the fire started in a cuspidor that stood in the corner between the of cices of A A wenger and N J harris and which was filled with saw dust it is the theory of the firemen that shortly before the building was closed tor the night some one threw a lighted cigar into the sawdust and the fire shouldered ed for some time before it burst into flames fanned by the draft from the elevator the flames licked the woodwork burning through the partition and catching the carpet in mr weng ers office owing to the tact that the office is on the north side of the building the flames were not ered until the partition between the offices of wenger and mr harris had been burned through mr wingers office was completely gutted everything being destroyed that was not in the sate the prompt action of the night officers saved the valuable law libraries on the floors beneath those in which tha fire was confined the loss to mr wenger will be about and 13 not covered by in su rance |
