Show Question to be submitted to citizens of mt. t pleasant at a pubic mass meeting MAY Hth. The City Council Has Been Wrestling With the Question Ques-tion for Several Months And Now Propose to Submit the Matter to the Tax Payers of the City. Pjrchasa of Local Electric Light and Power Plant. The question hasbeen brought to an issue because the Mount Pleasant Mill & Power Co., having overloaded their plant and having demands for more lights must of necessity enlarge their plant or sell to some one who will provide the necessary equipment equip-ment and machinery to furnish the public with the amount of flight required. A The city has an opportunity to purchase the holdings of the Vjocal company although the Telluride Power Company is seeking to get control of the plant and have had representatives in town several times looking over the situation. The city owns a power site at the mouth of the canyon capable cap-able of furnishing 150 horse power, all that would be needed for a municipal plant. Cities in the state operating mnnicipal plants with whom correspondance has been carried on, without i exception approve of the municipal ownership of electric light plants. I The time seems opportune for the city to come into ownership of this facility. The city council coun-cil has made investigations and favor the proposition if it meets ; with the minds and approval of j the tax payers. A competent ! engineer will be in the city within the next week to furnish estimates and advice generally ! jconcerning the situation. A mass meeting; has been called i for Saturday evening, May 11th, in the North Ward Meeting-house where the matter will be thoroughly discussed with the citizens and some definite conclusion arrived at. j All tax payers and citizens of this city who use electric lights or elec-J tricity in any way should rally to the occasion and take a lively inter- ' est in the welfare of our city. Mt. Pleasant needs a first class lighting system and it would be an unwise plan to let this matter slip out of their hands and fcrce the citizens to pay high prices for their lights to some other company. |
