Show fire burns on hill near hear vernon destroys grazing vernon apparently started by lightning a wind fanned blaze of major proportions swept over 2000 acres in the tintic gintic mountains west of vernon before it was finally stopped last monday july 28 just 6 days after the fire began according to lawrence jones a rancher in that locality a small tire fire was spotted on tuesday eve ning july during a rain storm but it was believed the would die out later the fire began to spread until it was well up on boulder mon the blaze was reported to the sheriff sheriffs s office and on wednesday seven men went out to fight the fire they were assisted by a vol gunteer crew from vernon deputy sheriff bill sharp report ed that the vegetation on the south side of black rock canyon was burned out then the flames con linued up boulder mountain corn com plemely clearing it of most of the ti timber there which is principally pine cedar and mahogany located approximately 60 miles from tooele thoele the immediate scene of the fire did not endanger any buildings or corrals however if the wind had shifted or come up any stronger it may have caused some damage by spreading to ranches in the area game warden sidney pehr pehrson son of vernon had charge of the group fighting the blaze on monday tho it was believed the conflagration would burn itself out on the top of the mountain without any aid from the men |
