Show garden club hears state officers give instructions instructions dr melbourne D wallace dent state associated garden clubs was the principal speaker at the july meeting of the tooele thoele garden club which was held in the garden terrace at the home of dr and mrs T M aldous on the evening of july 21 other visitors present were mr fred augsburger vice president of the associated garden clubs and mrs newbold both of these visitors also made short and instructive talks prior to the meeting an inspect t on of the community eose rose gard en on the grounds of the city hall was made by dr wallace and officers of the club insects were identified and control meas ures given fertility and soil con discussed and means of com batting mildew and other di ceases outlined it was po anted out by dr wallace that the which seemed to be very abundant was perhaps caus ing most serious damage to the roses at present and was prevent ing the development of blooms the is a tiny grayish brown in sect with a slender body resemy ling an ant but more tiny which devours the pollen and blights the bloom the remedy advised for control of this pest was a DDT spray 2 tablespoons 50 DDT and half a handful of vel or other soap powder per gallon of water for control of mildew dr wal lace advised the use of yellow cide and for control of rose beetles a formula known as 1068 following talks given at the meet ing refreshments were served and a delightful evening spent in the them beautiful garden of the host and hostess dr and masl mrs T M aldous |
