Show Thursday, September 20, 1979 Page 15 Newland Joins John Newland has been hired by the Park City Police Department to fill the vacancy left by Officer Rex Pederson, who left the department to head security at the Ontario Mine under operation by Noranda Mines, Ltd. "I've wanted to be a police officer ever since I left the navy," Newland says. "I'm most interested in becoming a juvenile specialist. Though the Park City force doesn't currently have a slot for such a position I can see how they might in the forseeable future." Newland says he developed a preference for working with young people after coaching football at Park High for the past four years and seven years of coaching Junior Ail-American Ail-American football while living in Southern California. Newland moved with his wife Arlee from a town near Pasadena, California, to Park City four and a half years ago. The couple operated the Mother Lode restaurant and bar on Main Street for the next four years. During that time Newland was appointed sanitation supervisor for the city, a position he held for two and a half years. Newland comes to the city police force right after achieving another goal: after af-ter 16 weeks on a rigorous high protein diet Park City's KAC The Kimball Art Center will open an exhibit of work by some of its faculty members mem-bers on Sunday, September 23, 1979. A reception will be held Sunday, September 23, 3-5 p.m., in the honor of the exhibiting artists. The show will continue through Thursday, Thurs-day, October 20.
