Show BILL TO EXTEND OIL LEASES GETS COMMITTEE O. K. WASHINGTON, Jan. 20. Representative Repre-sentative Colton's committee on public lands has favorably reported report-ed to the house a bill introduced in the senate by the late Senator Warren of Wyoming authorizing the secretary of the interior to grant further extensions of three years on oil or gas permits issued by the interior department. The original leasing act allowed the holder of a prospecting permit two years in which to discover oil or gas. From time to time congress authorized the granting of extensions, exten-sions, because it was found that in meritorious cases, especially in wild-cat territory, a longer time was justified. As the law now stands, the extreme ex-treme lifetime of a permit, with all extensions allowed by law, is nine years. The Warren bill would make it 12 years. 1 . i h i i . |
