Show Defendant Wins Jail Release Recommendations for leniency by Spanish Fork citizens, headed by Mayor JNeil Dahle, won freedom from a jail sentence tor Mark Cornaby of Spanish Fork, who was sentenced on a liquor possession case Monday in the Fourth district dis-trict court. Cornaby was given a six months sentence in the county jail by Judge Abe W. Turner but the sentence was suspended on provision that Cornaby does not violate any of the laws of Utah. Mayor Dehle's letter to the court a petition which included signatures signa-tures of John E. Booth, state senator, sen-ator, C. H. White, county commissioner, commis-sioner, Thomas O. Robertson, police chief and Braxton Barnett, city Marshal, along with the names of neighbors, coupled with the statements state-ments of Cornaby's lawyer, I. E. Brockbank, won freedom for the man convicted of possession. Cornaby was arrested a year ago along with Alvin Billington. The case against Billington was later dismissed for lack of evidence; Cornaby changed his first plea of "not guilty" to "guilty" and was ; fine! S200 or 180 days in jail. He started serving this sentence on March 25, 1932, and on March 31, filed notice of appeal. His conduct during the past few months was described by Mayor Dahle as good. He has a wife and . four small children, it was pointed t out by the petitioning group. |
