Show County Teams Meet Friday Afternoon . 1 Cherrington and Whitman of Springville; Peterson, and Relay Teams of Provo Among Expected Mark Setters. races, both high and low are .likely .like-ly to go to the strong Spanish Fork performers such as P. Erlmhall and Fullmer, with Hurst of Lincoln Lin-coln another strong entry. W0 Looks Closer Strom of Payson and Dudley of Spanish Fork are two of t the big puns for the 440 race and Warren nnd Harrison of Spanish Fork, Foutz of Pleasant Grove and Andrews An-drews and Pyne of Lincoln look good to be in the money in the half-mile race. The mile race should bring out a three-cornered contest between Bryan Woodland of Provo high, Andrews of Lincoln and Louder of Pleasant Grove, with Woodland given a slight edge. Holm of Spanish Fork and Perry of Lincoln are among the outstanding outstand-ing spear-throwers in the region and McKeen of Payson, Dudley of Spanish Fork,, Wilkins of Spring-ville Spring-ville and Perry of Lincoln are expected ex-pected to be well in the running in the discus throw. Simmons of Region 3 track and field records are likely to be wiped off the slate and new ones chalked up Friday afternoon when the powerful cinder squads of Utah county together with Tintic and Juab hold their annual meet. The annual contests between track artists of the 10 schools will begin at 3 o'clock at the B. Y. U. stadium. Admission is free to everyone. Records In Offing That a number of new records will be hung up is indicated in the showing of some of the star performers per-formers in previous meets, particularly par-ticularly at the "Y" Invitational. At this meet last Saturday Region 3 performers were among the outstanding out-standing athletes and accounted for marks that if repeated will be records in the regional affair. Ed Peterson of Provo high should heave out the 12-pound shot for a new mark. In an exhibition at the "Y" relays he bettered the qtate record and that 48-foot mark and Lehi will be well represented in the high jump with Woffinden : and Evans with ,Rex Gourley also in the running. McBeth of Pay- son, Fullmer of Spanish Fork and Cherrington of Springville are also ' in the money in this event. McBeth and Woffinden have both beeii hovering around the 5 foot 10 inch mark in pre-meet trials. Other performers in all the schools have been counted in the first five finishers in. trial meets and consistent improvement has given promise that they will be heard irom Friday afternoon. Dope seems to give Provo and Spanish Fork the edge as far -as teams are concerned. Payson is also a weight heaver of merit. Cherrington, Springville's ace is almost a cinch to take the broad jump and to make a record in his win. He jumped 22 feet at the Invitational In-vitational and has consistently been going better than 21 feet 6 inches. Hurst and Ronnow of Lincoln Lin-coln are strong in the broad jump. Cherrington should count heavily in other events, also, particularly the sprints. McBeth and Simmons of Payson and Rex and Lee Gourley Gour-ley of Pleasant Grove will stage a merry battle in the pole vault event state record and that 48-foot mark or a lesser one Is good enough for a record in Region 3. Close behind Peterson is Bill Wilkins of Springville Spring-ville who has made heaves that spell danger to the existing records rec-ords this year. Relays Sensational Provo high's two relay teams, the mile and the medley are expected to repeat their performances of the Invitational when they ran two remarkable re-markable races. The . mile-relay team Morris Barber, Jolley, Bo-shard Bo-shard beat the old record at the Invitational by nearly three seconds. sec-onds. The medley team also made a great showing when they ran the race in 3 '.51.5. Pleasant Grove's and Lincoln's medley teams will push the Bulldogs Bull-dogs in the regional race. The 100-yard dash is likely to bring out some stiff competition between Dick Whitman and Jack Cherrington of Springville and Bob Boshard, Provo. Boshard is given an edge at the present but the be-spectacled Springville athlete ath-lete may spring a surprise to upset up-set the dope. In the 220-yard dash, however, Whitman is the favorite.
