Chatter Box Dear Suzy, Quetta Ellis, brassiere and gir-dle clerk at Stevens, is nursing a lot of bruises and sores in places that she won't show this week. It seems that she wnt to "Days of the Old West" and got all bother-ed about trick and fancy riding and decided to take it up so she could perform next year. She figured a pint size horse was best to begin on so got a Shetland pony to practice on. The pony was small enough so that she could stand straddle of it, both feet on the ground and safe from falling too far. All went well until she reached down for one of the reins that had slipped from her fingers and as she did the pony got ideas and took off from in under Quetta with a great burst of speed. Quetta hadn't figured on this maneuver and it cramped her style somewhat by the sudden turn of events. Had Ray Skinner been there to see the fancy figures she cut as she did a double flip flop, full turn and one point landing, he would have signed her up right then and there. But sad to relate, there were very few witnesses of the acrobatic feats and so it was done mostly in vain. Where Quetta landed and on what parts of her body are not seen in print and seldom spoken of in polite society. But she did land and with quite a thump, in fact the thump was so great that it required the profes-sional services of a doctor to ad-minister to her. This all took place on Sunday and Monday Quetta failed to put in an appearance at the store as she was still nursing the bruises and trying to knead the spots back into a semblance of their former shape. But Tuesday she was back on the job through with Shetlands and had dropped her career as a trick and fancy rider. Joe says she didn't take up riding a Shetland to get into Ray's show, but she figured she could take it along in the back seat in case she and Joe went for another ride from which they had to walk home. It may be that that is the way of it and if it was Quetta was figuring well in advance and with a double duty goal in mind. Now that politics is taking the limelight I would like to remind you of the little gem of wisdom written some time ago by Long-fellow. It goes: Lives of politicians oft remind us We too should live where life abunds, And departing leave behind us Deficits in the public funds. Toots.
