A few days ago the commissioners of this county met the Weber county commissioners on the divide between Cache and Weber counties, south of Avon, and explored the route for a road across the dlvldo so as to connect the two counties. It was decided to commence work early next sprinir. While In Pocatello on his return from Canada, Mr. Fred Turner came across A. II. Llndqulst, a brother of Geo. W. James Ricks met with a very painful pain-ful accident last Tuesday, at the back of the drug store. He was aiding In the moving of a large tablo when he lost his footing and fell, breaking his leg. Danlelson returned from Preston, Thursday morning, wheie he Is figuring on a pipe .lino for tho Oneida Irrigating company. One contract for piping has been awarded to a California company for about $31,000, being but seven dollars lower than Mr. Danielsen's bid. A second contract is to bo let and our townsman towns-man will put in another bid. It Is claimed that this canal when completed com-pleted will bo ono of the best In tho state of Idaho. The district that is covered by tills canal has been bonded for $350,000 and the promoters are determined to push tho work to a speidy completion. Hans Slmonscn, of the Logan Second ward, operated on Tuesday for abscess of the brain, from which ho died that evening, was one of the pioneers of Newton, having come to that town In tho early 70's. no was born In Hella-Ilitle, Hella-Ilitle, Denmark, on Novcmbor 30th, 1843, cmgrating to Utah In 1870. Ho first located at Brlghain city and then moved to Newton, whero ho lived until un-til about six years ago, when ho camo to Logan. Mr. SImonsen was the father of nine children, Ilvo of whom, with his wife, and three grandchildren survivo him. Ho was a good citizen. Tho funeral will be held In tho Second ward meeting house today at 1 o'clock. Tho necessity of a better hotel service ser-vice in Logan Is demonstrated in the fact that sixteen Commercial travelers put In their appearance at "Tho Lincoln" Lin-coln" Wednesday evening after all ro' us were tilled. Somo of these wero provided for by placing them In rooms engaged from peoplo nearby, and others "doubled up" with follow travelors already at tho hotel. There aro few days when from Ilvo to ten aro not turned away from "Tho Lincoln" and this is no doubt trim of "Tho Hanks" and "The Eagle", both hostclrlcs with better sleeping accommodations ac-commodations than "Tho Lincoln." Tho smaller hotols.boardlng and rooming room-ing houses seem to havo an excellent patronage, and withal there is frequently fre-quently a dearth of such accommodations accommoda-tions as travelers desire. |
