We get all stripped down to what the law requires and It turns cool, as Freeland Alvey put it, we will blow snot all summer. Hazel Haycock was called to Salt Lake City as son Brice had another operation, which is about number eight Her brother Lynn Steed was here from Calif, and took her to the bus. Wilmirth Wooley was out of action for awhile following a fall at her home which caused sprains and bruises. Loyd and Betty Alvey had nephew Shane Tullls here from Woods Cross, he is Ann's son He had a bike wreck and they feared his arm was broken but It was just bruised. Ruth and Forest Alvey had a visit from her nephew, David Trenton Calahan of Los Angeles, Calif. The family of Rex and Eva Allen are enjoying the summer house here, and of course they visit Aunt Ruth. Keith and some friends were here, Ira and Barbara, and Eunice and Lyle Groves. Bonnie and Jeris Liles were here at Kate Porters and took Lawnie back to Salt Lake with them. Bart and Peggy Palmer had his brother John here from Nevada, he is working at Bryce and plans to live here this winter. Afton and Sandra Leiben-guth have number two daughter, a fine big baby. El wood Willis took his mother, Nelda to Salt Lake City to attend an alumni homecoming for the graduate nurses of the Holy Cross Hospital. The nine living who graduated in 1020 were given special invitations and honors, eight of them were able to attend. Nelda's aunt, a former resident of Pangultch, Gretha Clark Tubbs was among those honored. She lives in Newport Beach, Calif, and was thrilled to attend the 50th anniversary of her graduation. Eph and Dicey Coombs had her son Owen Porter and family here from American Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Chestnut from Wayne County were here and he was trying to find familiar places and people, he used to live here above the big ditch, a son of Will Chestnut. Harvey Liston took a week's vacation and he and Evadean visited friends in Ma pleton then on to Roosevelt to stay with our newlyweds, Jim and Lola. They attended an Indian celebration at Fort Duchesne and a rodeo. They brought Beth home just as she found a boy friend. Gwen Lyman went to Bryce Canyon and got Evelyn to take her to Panguitch fir a dental appointment, Nelda Willis went along for the ride. Louise Liston took the kids and went to Salt Lake for a vacation, Robert stayed here and had his. Mildred and Lynn Gates went north also. Betty Smith is a lucky person, they went to Cedar City and won a big colored television set. Ruth and Chester Lay went to the Callit area to cook for a group of men Most of the . U Willis family met at the Lynn Mclnelly home in Beaver: Dor-thy and Lowell went to Yellowstone, Elwood and Vaunda came here then wmt to Posey to camp There was a huge family of Todds held a reunion at Calf Creek and came to town for church, they made quite a showing. Beryl and Re tha Shurtz l.ave son Carlyle and family here Dee and Elda Haws have Martin and Jeanle Stock and boys here from Salt Lake. Dee's horse Enchelleto with Ricky Haws as a jockey won a feature race at the Richfield races. Darrell Alvey's horse took a third. Wayne and lone Barney have grandklds here, they are Joan's offspring. Vivian Roundy Is in charge of the Escalante Reunion this year and he says it will be held Sunday, August 18, at Fairmont Park, North Bowery from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. You have no doubt heard of the Man Without a Country, well Don Heap is the man without a home, Dale Wilson took his back and Don wound up in the red tape to get a loan through and build him a house on half of our lot, there in the shade of Don Coleman's barn. We did not teU him he would be on the skunk trail, they go through our place and congregate at Don's. Sharon Griffin (Festos) graduated from the trade tec. in Richfield In auto mechanics, he is lined up to go into the Air Force as soon as there is an opening. Mildred Gates has It made; she had a summer project of painting the back fence and got it finished all ready so now she can relax and enjoy the heat. Her daughter Terry decided to go to summer school and get her education finished sooner. We had missed Allie Spencer at church and found out why she was not there; Malt and Nelda were hauling off trash and gathered up her Sunday-go-to-meeting shoes and took them along. When they found it out they went back but could not find them, they had probably walked off. Warren and Kathleen Wool-sey thought when he graduated and pasted his State exams they would have It made but now there is the problem of finding a place to settle and get started In business, there should be an opening for a left handed dentist. Areola Gates had her kids to Richfield to the dentist. Leah Button and son Taylor went to Richfield to get some animal medicine, and Leah practically passed out from heat but aha had to come out of it as Taylor has no driver's license. lone Alvey went to Salt Lake City to visit her mother, Rose Peterson who was feeling a bit under the weather. While she was gone Edson helped Harold Lindsay and wife LaVern guide a group of nurses from the Five County on a whole day tour of the Boulder and Circle Cliff area, June 30th Among the group were several ladies from the Utah State Department of Health from Salt take City. This tour has become an annual affair, last year they visited Hole In the Rock and the Escalante Desert, they are all ready planning the trip fcr next year Mentioned laat week Jim Spencer being here, Janet and the kids were with him thev had been to Califor nla where he attended an athletic convention where two of the nation's top coaches were instructors. It was especially rewarding to Jim as he met an old Army Buddy who wss in the same profession and they 'continued inside) ESCALANTE (continued from front page) had a good visit Wade Barney Is home on furlough before going to New York to a school in heavy equipment. Marion Spencer did not get to come home, something about his orders being delayed, they sent him to Fort Ord, Calif, to a cook school. He did get a three day pass snd went to the beach, but it was so lousy with hippies who looked at the soldiers like they were from outer space they felt quite out of place. He was naturally homesick but after eight weeks schooling he has been promised a trip home. Ray and lienors Griffin quit the motel business and moved back Into their home, their son Pole went to Cedar City and met bis girls to bring them here for a vacation. Mabel Griffin and Janeen Alvey went to Richfield to visit Caroline Eyre. Donnetta Haycock came from Salt Lake and joined her parents Stan and Neta and sister Janls for a camping trip to Oak Creek where they were joined by Doug and Barbara and family from Green River. LaVern and Mary Griffin and Jolynn went to spend the day. Mary said there was a lot of travel and the camp was filled up. Jolynn Is home for a two week vacation, then Jo Chris-tensen plans to go back with her. Eldon and Amber Griffin are In Richfield. Eldon along with other Forest Service personnel went there for a schooling on fighting forest fires. Bill Boyle got employment in Snowflake, Arizona, Winona went down to find a place to live. The Bruce Burrs are buying the home. Twila Mcln-elly Is practically alone again after having Lynn and Judy Griffin and family from Salt Lake, Grena from Cedar City, and Chan and Betty and boys. Chan will be stationed in Kan sas now, it Is quite a change from Turkey. Andrew and Isabel! Spencer are home for awhile and hope they can stay. Bernard and Ora Schow are home after spending all Spring out on a sheep shearing tour, they did not make much as the rain kept them from shearing so many days. The Gall Baileys and the Calvin Shurixs have Dean and Blaine Shurtz and family here from Arizona. Dave and Yulonde Mcl nelly came from Arizona to visit between Twila Mclnellys and th Rol Porters Allen and Lavin.i Pollock are all alone. Vic Van Oostendorp came from Calif and took Kay and the two Utile girls back, Guy and family 1 came from Richfield for the weekend. The Grant Spencers heard from Donald and l.inrla in Gillette, Wyoming that they have been accepted into the branch there, have both talked in church and Linda has been put in as Primary President. Vermon Rarney was here from Panguitch with part of his family. Also from Panguitch were the Wilford Roes visiting at the Gene Griffin home. Mary Ellen Coleman has been away; first to Monroe to care for Donna Rae Barker who had a major operation, then Charlotte Rae needed foot surgery so Valeree came from Salt Lake and took then up, now Valerie and husband Tobe Davles are here fishing and visiting. It finally started to rain, we'd wished it again and again, it came down so fast it Just couldn't last, the racket could drive one insane. |
