Show New Industry Established in County A long-awaited dream came into reality this month as a branch of the Utah Apparel Industries, Inc.. opened a sewing plant at Henrieville. Last November a group of citizens from the Bryce Valley area; Tropic, Cannonville and Henrieville, met and formed the Bryce Valley Development Corporatiin for the purpose of bringing some type of industry Into the area. A board of directors was elected and the group met with representatives of the Small Business Administration, Utah Industrial Promotion Program, etc., to formulate plans for the project. Albert Barlovits. owner of the Utah Apparel Industries. Inc., met with the group and soon plans were underway for a clothing plant to be established in the area. Plans were made for a new plant to be built in Tropic, and after considerable study, it was decided to use the old LDS church building in Henrieville for a temporary site, to make sure that the project would be a success, and if so the new building would be constructed at Tropic. Members of the corporation worked to get the building in order. According to Mr. Barlovits the plant has capacity and equipment for thirty employees. Eighteen ladies are already trained and ready for work and an additional six are in training. Mary Lou Nielson has been named supervisor and the new plant is expected to be In full operation in a week or ten days. It is projects such as this that will help make our county grow economically, as well as make it a more attractive place for our people to live. |
