Show Ancient Burial Found Near Hatch The finding of a human skull and some bones In a dry wash three miles southeast of Hatch caused excitement Sunday. The find was made in the late afternoon by Kurt Sawyer, 16, and Dave Christian, 20, while they were rabbit hunting. They brought their find to Hatch with them. It was too dark to return to the site that evening, so Garfield County Sheriff Keith Fackrell led a party to the scene of the find next day. Other parts of the skeleton protruded from the wash about two feet above Its bottom. Indications were that It was a pre historic Indian burial. Stones had been placed over the corpse after which a fire had been built atop the stones to bide traces. The bones and bits of charcoal from that ancient fire were sent to the U. of U. for evaluation by Sheriff Fackrell. |
