It will come from the ovens of a Granger bakery parade through Salt Lake City, and be cut and served to customers of FAIM Department Store, during a Washington's Birthday Celebration, February 20 - 22. The cake will be red, white, and blue with a decorative picture of George Washington and alternate cherry and vanilla layers. Ten thousand people can be served with two-inch samples each. Put together in sections, like masonry, the cake will be 4 feet by 8 feet at the base and each of the 4 tiers of cake will be made of 5 layers. Two hundred and fifty pounds of icing will be required for decoration. The master baker generously disclosed the recipe for 12 ton of cake as follows: Cream 80 pounds of shortening with 220 pounds of sugar, add one thousand, one hundred and fifty two fresh eggs. Add 180 pounds of cake flour which has been sifted with 6 pounds of baking powder, alternately with 16 gallons of milk. Flavor with 1 12 pints of vanilla. Mix well. Mixing requires 36 man hours. Bake for 3 hours. Frost the cake after it is cool, with the 250 pounds of icing. |
