Show VOTE- DON'T JUST TALK Commenting editorially the Ontario, Oregon, Argus-Observer, said in part. "Louise Humphrey, Portland tajt expert, hit the nail on the head in her speech before the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation 'when she blamed taxpayer apathy j as one of the big reasons for ever-increasing expenditures, some necessary, s o m e, unnecessary. "Everyone gripes, but only a small handful care enough to try to do something. Major decisions involving large expenditures of money or just policy, are passed every day without a lift of an eyebrow or comment from the average citizen. vToo often the comment is 'What can I do? How I feel doesn't make any difference.' How wrong is this attitude. Each and every one of us has a weapon- our vote. If only we could be bothered to take the time to mark a ballot when it is presented to us, we could do something. Too often, only a few take the time to vote--exposing us not to the rule by majority, but to rule by minority." |
