Personology is but the method of recognizing the natural variations of physique, tempera-ment and endowment and associating them to the behavior patterns to which they belong. When one understands personology he no longer lives in generalities but becomes aware of his own individual propensities so that he can control them. Averages are not explanations and they hide too much. Each of us must learn through his own makeup. Hilgard lists heredity as the first thing we must understand in order to understand our adjustment to others and other things. Personology helps you under-stand your own genetic pattern of behavior. A Work-a-da- y Pattern of Living You Were lorn That Way By Arthur M. Richardson Among the amazing sciences of which the world is aware today is the science of personology. It is the science of people as in-dividuals -- - how people are different as individuals. It explains why your wife fails to appreciate those wonderful camping trips you take her on every summer. It shows why Junior doesn't seem to eat very much at any one meal. It helps you understand why one person .is always getting all; "steamed up" about little things.1 It tells why another is so broad-minde- d and easy-goin- g that other . . people usually get irritated at nim for his apparent lack of concern about rules and regulations. Personology is unique in that it relates physical structure to be-havior patterns. It stresses pro-portions instead of sizes. Further-more, these proportions have to do with definite cell tissue areas. Personology places the emphasis on the individual rather than typing people into a general group or category. But more than all, perhaps, the success and ' popularity of personology is due primarily to the fact that it speaks a language that the general public can understand, the man-on-the-str- eet can listen to a discussion of his personal traits on a level that he can readily understand. As Allport says: u The natural variations of physique, tempera-ment and endowment which characterize individuals tend to The manner of giving shows the character of the giver, more than the gift itself.
