The destruction of tvo submarines by British' naval craft is thus described: The captain of a destroyer saw a German Ger-man U-boat attack a merchant steamer two miles off, The destroyer went to the assistance of the steamer and the submarine dived. "When I judged that we were directly over her, 1 let so a depth charge with a life buoy to mark the spot," said the' captain. "Within fifteen seconds of the explosion the submarine came to the surface sur-face wiih a slight list to starboard. Immediately Im-mediately the conning tower showed l above water all our starboard guns opened fire and the conning tower was riddled. A British submarine accounted for the other German U-boat. "I fired both bow torpedoes almost simultaneously," paid the captain of tiie British submarine, "and about half a minute later there was a terrific explosion, explo-sion, a big flame and a fountain of water a hundred feet high. The German submarine sub-marine totally disappeared. There was a lot of oil about and the smell of paraffin but no sign of any part of the boat.
