The Trial of Joseph Smith, the Mormon Prophet. ; ; An unusual Moving Picture I wonder how many of the great picture loving public are aware that probably over one haL of ih scenes they witness on the screen, are actually actu-ally "built" in the various siudiosof the different moving picture concerns. con-cerns. This we are told will be strongly illustrated when we see the unusually strong filmed story of "100 Years of Mormonism" which is due at the Opera House on Saturday March 8th. In this film there are a number of large scenes of considerable considera-ble merit, among which are the jail, at Carthage, Mo., in 1839, wnere Joseph Smith and Elders were shot, the court house, of the same place and period, whi re the historical tiial took place, and an entire street scene in Independence, Mo. Mods, Militia and Mormons a shown in this street riot, during which the building are bumeu to the ground. The above street scei.e a one took a small army ofcarpnnters several weeks to complete, and all frthe two scenes shown, after which it was burned, but afforded probably the greatest fire scene ever enacted in any studio. A Village Burned One of the most unique and interesting in-teresting incidents that has orobably ever happen. d in the moving Picture busines in Los Angeles, occured at the Hauser Ranch on January 1st, of this year. The last big scene for the six reel film feature of "100 years of Mormonism" was being enacted. en-acted. The entirp Washing' rn BouWard for half a mile, in the vicinily of trie Hauser Ranch, was a packed mass of autos, filled with tourists and plea-ure seekers, intently watching a number of la-' ge "Mob" and "riot" sCi nes which were being enacted for the above film and which included Mobs, Mormons .nd soldiers to the extent of over a thousand people, who with the spectators made up several thousands of people on the Hauser Ranch. The last scene represents the actual act-ual burning of I ne entire villiage street, that had taken a small army of carpenters several weeks to build and which was set on fire by the mob in their riot with the Mormons. As the fire progresses the action of the riot continues, in the midst of which the Mormon women and children can be seen carrying articles of furniture fur-niture and valuables out of reach of the fire which rapidly spreads un.il the entire street is in flames, and the mob is dispersed by the militia. The effect was tremendous and the onlookers sremed to lose the fact of its being simply a "picture i act" and stood in awed silence until the last house had fallen in. They then sent up cheer after cheer for the participants of such wonderfully realistic scenes. This is only opportunity the resident resi-dent of Mt. Pleasant will have to see this production and it is to be shown only once. Doors onen at 7:30, Curtain at 8 v m. Admission, Adults 35c children . under 14 yrs. 15c. |
