The Utcs now prepare for homecoming home-coming this week against an Emery team which was run out of the stadium sta-dium by a surprising upstart Lchi team. Lchi was picked dead last in the pre-season polls. At win on homecoming will put number 5 position but after an impressive second half comeback against the Washington Stale Cougars have risen to number 4. In commenting on the game BYU coach Lavcll Edwards stated that between friday and Saturday his team "lost something" and came out extremely flat in the first half as the 29-7 score indicated. "I generally leave it up to the team to rrcparc themselves for our games both physically and mentally, but at half-time half-time I wanted them to know how disappointed I was with our overall effort". It obviously worked because in the second half the cougars of Utah played like a team possessed. McCurdy took the bull by the horns several years ago when he was appointed as the Dinaland Golf Professional, and has not looked back since. He has the junior golf program at its most successful point ever with hoards of young golfers sitting in the wings waiting for a chance and a few year age to get on the high school team. For example, eighth grader Jill Steenburg has three state titles on. the mantle and will be eligible next year. Luke Caldwell is playing to a nine handicap and will also arrive next season. Add that to Pope, Smuin, (Scott) Monsen, Cox, and Aycock who are all freshmen and sophomores and the Uintah High golf fortunes are in good shape for the next four to five years. The junior golf program this summer sum-mer numbered around 150 kids ages 7 through 16 and those kids will all mature and come to the school program pro-gram sometime during the next seven sev-en years. "Look at what Rory (Dude) Mortensen did last week" commented McCurdy when talking about his junior golf program as a feeder to the school program, "He's 12 years old and he shot an 85 from the blue tees last week." The Utes have only to keep the wheels on during- the next three weeks and then a group of youngsters young-sters will join the two seniors on the team for a great challenge against Cedar City, Box Elder, Ogdcn, and company at the 3A's. Since the coach won't pick 'em, we will. Look for a top 5 finish at state from a team which will return six of eight varsity member for the next two years. Look for a state title in one of the next two years if not this time out. Hearings slated on proposed 1991 fishing regis.
