John and Chcrie Dickey. LaRae Hoopes drove her daughter, daugh-ter, Stanna, to Provo for an orthodontist checkup. While there, they visited Paula Martin, LaRae's .sister and stayed overnight with her. Woody B. Searle to Sponsor Dog Trials A cutter dog show and trials will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 19-22 beginning each day at 10 a.m. at the Searle's Little Brush Creek Ranch. Mr. Searle reported that last week the same type of show was held in Meeker, Colo, and netted the largest purse ever given in the U.S. The winning dog in the Meeker trials, was from Calif, and was entered by Dodi Green. She will be entering the same dogs in the Vernal trials. The trials will be open to the public pub-lic and will be free. Manila I hv Tiara Rnhincnn 784-3463 Jj Town clerk attends workshop in Salt Lake City Judy Archibald, Manila Town Clerk, was in Salt Lake City, Utah, all of last week. The first two days she attended special clerk's workshops work-shops and the last two days were in conjunction with the Utah League of Cities and Towns. Three members mem-bers of the Manila Town Council attended the League conferences. They were Mayor Carole Scott, Grant Maloy, and Lenita Steinaker. The other two, Stew Leaith and Ida Marie Twitchell, were unable to attend as they were working. Mayor Scott appreciated the opportunity to present two of the workshops. One was on "Earthquake and Geological Hazards" and the other was on "Safe Drinking Water". Mayor Scott' says there were many more interesting workshops and it was a good meeting this year. Primary elections were held in Daggett County last Tuesday, but there were no local candidates on the ballot The M&L Homemakers Extension Service Club held their annual steak fry at Palisades picnic area on Sheep Creek at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13. Only fifteen people were in attendance but they enjoyed cooking their meats, testing the potluck dishes, visiting and the beautiful weather. Hostesses for the evening were Fon Salgowski and Ora Iverson. Thursday, the Manila Elementary School children grades 4 through 6 made the trip to Salt Lake City to see the state fair. They were accompanied accom-panied by Principal Gerald Erickson and Mrs. Bonnie Bierman, teacher, and their parents. The children seemed especially interested in the produce, especially the pumpkins and squash. One pumpkin weighed 170 lbs. Marie Beckstead announced at the Wednesday noon meal meeting of the senior citizens center last week, that she would be instructing a "55 alive mature driving course" at the center on Sept. 26 and again the following fol-lowing morning, Sept. 27. This course is sponsored by the AARP, and helps senior citizens keep their insurance down by making them safe drivers. The course costs $7.00. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Putnam returned from Las Vegas, Nev. after attending a missionary farewell for their grandson. He will be leaving for a L.D.S. mission. The Board of Education met at Manila High School at 7 p.m. for the monthly school board meeting. The previous evening, the Board and some local people toured the new school building that is being built. The brick work is moving along rapidly and a sidewalk has been poured along second north, east of the old gym. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Courtwright and daughter Carta, of Rawlins, visited vis-ited in Manila with their relatives, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Sunday afternoon the Courtwrights and Mrs. George Ellsworth made a quick trip to Vernal and back before the Courtwrights left for Rawlins. Art and Lynn Robinson were in the Manila area last Saturday. They helped the Ellsworth families haul wood. Visiting recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Lamb was their daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Hoon Kwon and daughter of Seattle, Wash. Thompson in Roosevelt 722-4737 In recent months we at the Utah Highway Patrol have had numerous reports and violations of the Utah child Restraint Law. Many drivers in the basin are allowing infants or young children to ride on the driver's driv-er's lap. Drivers are allowing young children to stand on seats, unrestrained. unre-strained. These are two of the most dangerous violations we encounter as Utah Highway Patrol troopers. Utah Child Restraint laws are "Laws of Love". All children under the age of eight must be properly restrained, in a motor vehicle. , Children two years and up to age' eight, must ride fn an approved car safety scat or safety belt.
