Show LaVERKIN Pansy L. Hardy Reporter 1 Mr. and Mrs. Robert Merrill of Springville were visitors at the home of their children, Mr. and Mrs.' Harris Merrill, last week. Cpl. DuWayne Stevens who, has served three and a half years in the Pacific theatre of war, spent last week visiting at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Theron Stevens. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stevens of Las Vegas accompanied him. A wedding dance for Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stratton of Hurricane was held here two weeks ago. A large crowd attended. Mrs. Stratton Strat-ton is the former Mrs. Fern Tayor of Toquerville. A large crowd from LaVerkin attended the basket ball game at Cedar City last Saturday between Hurricane high and Cedar City high. Seaman Charles Duncan of Idaho visited over the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Oren Hepworth and Mrs. Dwain Hepworth. He has been a close associate of Dwain Hepworth who has been overseas for more than one and one-half years and came to bring them news of Seaman Hepworth. News has reached Mr. and Mrs. John Judd of the birth of a son to Lt. and Mrs. Robert Judd at the Oakland Naval hospital. Lt. Judd, who is an interne there, will graduate with a Ph. D. this spring. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Gifford have received word from their son, Benair, who is with the Navy overseas. He tells of having seen the most beautiful L. D. S. Temple Tem-ple ever built so their guess as to his location is Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Crandall of Las Vegas are here hoping to purchase pur-chase a home. Mr. Crandall was a speaker at Sacrament meeting. Maurice Nuttall of the High Council, Coun-cil, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Allred and Mr. and Mrs. John Dennett of Springdale were stake visitors at Sacrament meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sanders and Mr. and Mrs. Ervil Sanders were St. George visitors last week for the turkey breeders and directors meeting held there. The advanced Junior Sunday school class sponsored a party at the home of Mrs. Vernon Church last week. A birthday - anniversary party honoring Miss Hilda Brooks, was given at the home of her parents on Jan. 22. Mrs. Elmer Hardy has returned from Hollywood, Calif. Where she has been visiting her husband, Pvt. Hardy, who is stationed there. Mrs. Willard Pectol is in California Calif-ornia visiting her husband who is stationed there in military training. train-ing. Chester Hardy, Sam Earl and Charles Lempers were home over the week end from their defense work in California. Walter Church has received his call to report at Fort Douglas on Feb. 12. His twin brother who is serving in the northwestern States L. D. S. mission is due home in February and they hope to meet before Walter enters the service. The date for Warren's return is not known. John S. Duncan, a southern Utah pioneer who formerly made his home in LaVerkin, marked his 84 anniversary on Jan. 7. He is a present living in Salt Lake City. : |
