Show IRON WORKS STARTED. By nine o'clock, this morning, quite a number of the citizens of Ogden had assembled at the Ogden Iron Works, to witness the lighting of the first fire in the new furnace under the management of the present lessee, Mr. R. J. Jones, the preparations having been made under the direction of Mr. Albert Broden, manager of the furnace. At 9:30 the ?? and kindlings were all in position, and a match sent from Reading, Penn., for the special purpose, was struck, and the light was applied to the kindlings. In a short time after the furnace was started up the smoke was seen ascending from the stack and mingling with the atmosphere in the blue vault above. Everything worked to a charm and augurs success. We fully expect that by midnight, or by daylight, on Sunday morning, the first blast will have been made, and the Ogden Iron Manufactory will be pronounced in successful operation. Iron will have been made, and be on exhibition. At present there is a great deal of water needed to run the water power and we are pleased to know that the Water Commissioners met, this morning, to make arrangements for a full supply of the liquid. Everybody is pleased at the present prospects and we heartily desire to prosperity of this important enterprise.-Ogden Herald. |
