Show THE FIRST BLAST. The Ogden Herald is jubilant over the reality of iron made in that city from ore taken from the hills near to it. For nearly ten years past the Ogden Iron Works have been one of the prospective industries of the Junction city, but from one cause and another their completion was deferred from time to time until many people became skeptical as to whether they ever would be actually completed. Skepticism must now hide its diminished head, for the manufacture of iron has actually become an industry of demonstrated success in the "Chicago of the Rocky Mountains." On Monday morning last, a large crowd of people assembled at the works to witness the first run of Iron from the furnace. About 3,500 pounds of pig iron was run, and the crowd cheered lustily. We congratulate our sister city on the establishment of so important an industry in her borders, and hope that the iron wealth of Cache county will soon be brought out and developed. |
