Show DEATH OF BISHOP WARD. The following is furnished by our Brigham City correspondent: Bishop Geo. W. Ward, of Willard City, died at his residence, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 18th. He was taken ill shortly after the last Box Elder Stake Conference, but appeared to be recovering, so much so that he attended meeting on the Sunday previous to his death, and addressed the Saints at some length in his kind and fatherly manner. He was taken worse on Monday and continued to sink, until he quietly fell away as if going to sleep. Bishop Ward joined the Church in England when but a boy, and during the many years he has been connected with this people has shown an unflinching faith in the gospel of truth. He was a member of the County Court for many years. By his kind and genial ways he endeared himself to all who knew him, and they are many. The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the bowery, Sunday, Aug. 20th, and were largely attended by the Saints of Willard and Brigham. Elder Samuel Smith, Bishop John Burt, Elders W. I. Watkins and H. P. Jensen, Presidents O. G. Snow and Elder George Pacer were the speakers, and all bore testimony of his faithfulness and good works. Some seventy of eighty teams followed the remains to the grave. |
