Show THE BUTTER MAKERS TAKING A BIG RISK Our attention has been called to the fact that some of the butter being sold in the local markets and labeled, "Guaranteed to contain full 16 ounces," is when put to the test on the scales considerably short of that weight. We are very much surprised at this as the law is very stingent in the matter and every package that contains less than the weight stated on the wrapper lays the maker liable to a fine under the law. It also lays the merchant liable to sell such a package at more than the actual weight. Besides that, the maker is cheating the merchant and the merchant mer-chant the customer. When a customer pays thirty cents for a pound of butter j he is entitled to a full pound. Anyone wishing to look up the law will j find it in chapters 2 and 3, pages 389 and 390, 1907 Compiled Laws. It states plainly that butter offered for sale must be wrapped in a wrapper which contains the name of the maker, postoflice address, ad-dress, kind of butter and the amount. Any violation of these provisions subjects sub-jects the owner to a fine. This is not a trivial matter, a pound of short weight butter sent to the inspector in-spector in Salt Lake would start an investigation in-vestigation that could hardly f dl to result re-sult in a fine for the maker and probably the dealer as wt 11. It is easier and safer to obey the law. |
