LAYTON With a theme of Youth, Americas Strength, local, state and national Veterans of Foreign Wars posts have involved high school age youth in their 36th annual Voice of Democracy Program and have selected local winners to represent the district. The Voice of Democracy program is by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ladies Auxiliary, with the cooperation of the National Association of Broadcasters and the State Association of Broadcasters to give young people a chance to express their feelings about America and to acknowledge their responsibility as citizens, according to Dot Lant, in the District 3 competition followed by Beckie Duston from Ogden High and Rodney Russel of Bonneville High. The winners were each presented with a trophy, a certificate of merit, and a gift certificate. , , Each of the students presentations was sincere, origin- al, and very positive, said Mrs. Lunt. Each challenged the listeners to think and speak up for thejr country. Layton Mayor Lewis Shields also spoke to the group and presented the VFW Post with a certificate of appreciation from the city for patriotic contributions to the community.
