He has accepted the past because he believes the field before him affords still greater opportunity Chan as president of the American Press association for helpfulness to the farmer, the country home dweller, dwell-er, the country housewife, and the country newspaper. Trained from boyhood to sense the fact that American life and American Ameri-can development are dependent on the tiller of the soil, Mr. Smith has spent all of his working life rrying out the ideas of his father, and has sought to make life happier and the country folk more prosperous, establishing estab-lishing his contact with even the remote re-mote selections by means of the American Am-erican Press association, which mission mis-sion has been to make prosperous the country newspaper. The growth of the prosperity of the country publisher pub-lisher has meant in proportionate decree de-cree a growth in the happiness and welfare of those to whom the country coun-try newspaper makes an appeal.
