Show THIS IS A H. It. TOW.V Milford Is a. railroad town ana upon up-on the prosperity ol the railroad the prosperity of the town largely depends. Not so. much are we concerned con-cerned with the dividends paid to the stockholders, but we are deeply concerned con-cerned in the question of employment employ-ment and Wiicus paid to the working man. At the presouv lime the. pay roll is way below normal. Not enough men are employed lu the shops here to keep the power plant running. Failures Fail-ures of, power art- frequent. There are plenty of men who need employment employ-ment and that employment should be given to ua many men as possible. No nian should be allo.ved to work overtime as long as there is an idle man in the country. One of the strong original arguments in favor of tho elgtil-houv day was. and still should be, the fact that employment could be given to move men. not that tho men who were fortunate in having hav-ing a job or a pull with the boss should be allowed to work 12 to 20 hours per day and collect for over- time, while other men were idle. We repeat, overtime is all right Just, as long as there are no idle men. But no man .should be allowed overtime ov-ertime while his brother is out of work. |
