Show The Lehi Free Press - Thursday, September 24. v Page A-- 9 Pioneers To Meet Emery For Homecoming ry ) The Pioneers have had four tough to prepare warm-up- s them for the Region Nine against Emery Friday, September 25 at Lehi at 5 p.m. The game should be a great one as it's also Lehi's Homecoming Game. The Pioneers won two and lost two of these practice games but their two losses came against schools, Bear River and Jordan. They beat Union 5 and chalked up a win against power, Delta. Coach Lou Andrus has developed a passing offense with junior quarterback Brett Nattress at the helm. A pass from Nattress to Haws won the game Friday and a Nattress touchdown pass was the only TD scored against powerful Jordan this year. Last Friday the Pioneers had 13 first downs to Unions' 15. The Pioneers rushed for 140 yards compared to Union's 190. The difference was in the passing where Lehi had 90 yards through the air to Union's 40. Nattress completed 8 for 19 and no interceptions. Union had 6 for 19 with three interceptions. Lehi fumbled three times to Union's 2. Another telling factor was in the penalty department where the Pioneers were penalized 95 yards to Union's 77. Penalties have hurt Lehi in past outings but the Pioneers are young and anxious and penalties often come with lack of experience. Chad Hillstead is emerging as Lehi's premier running back. Chad is a 6 senior who has the speed, agility and quickness to offset his size. A corps of d receivers are Todd Smith, Eric Haws, Todd Yates and Hillstead. Lehi's defense is tough. Many of the players go both ways and are tenacious on either offense or defense. Emerging as a prospective is senior Dave Stanley whose kicking ability is a strong factor in Lehi's football fortunes. is 3-- A 21-12-- """" i Rick Houghton, senior, and captain, back-u- week's game and raced the winning score. quarterback and plays defense in the backfield. He's made many key tackles and interceptions. Bryan Jacobsen is also a stalwart as guard on offense and is a defensive back to be reckoned with. Coming on strong are Evan Gordon and Kirk Brady. Kirk is a junior and Evan is only a sophomore. Also looking good are Todd Berry and Shane Atkinson, both juniors. Brady recovered a fumble in last pre-seas- 3-- I 1981 - p 66 yards for Seniors playing in their final homecoming game Friday are Rick Eric Haws, Chad Houghton, Hillstead, Todd Yates, Anthony Schmidt, Bryan Jacobsen, Todd Smith, Robert Hunt, and Dave Stanley. Remember, game time is 5 p.m. on e Friday at the local field. A great show is in store for fans as well of homecoming as introduction royalty. Lehi's team is laced with a formidable group of underclassmen and you can look for exciting competition as they are enthusiastic and learning fast under the coaching staff of Andrus, Wagner, Pierce, Henshaw and Toland. Senior players add a lot of class to the roster. They have the poise of champions and instill that confidence in their teammates.
