Show British Seaplane Is Forced Down BUFFALO, N. Y., July 11 (U.T?) The PBY-4 military seaplane being delivered to the British government gov-ernment from the Consolidated Aircraft company plant at San Diego, Cal., was forced down in Buffalo harbor today when headwinds head-winds exhausted its supply of fuel. The craft,' piloted by Capt. Russell Rus-sell R. Rogers, fought headwinds for 17 hours and the fuel supply fell below the safety factor. From Botwood, Capt. Rogers will fly the ship across the Atlantic Atlan-tic to England. Capt. Rogers said he expected to resume the flight by noon. The twin-motored plane, first military ship to be delivered by air to England from this country, was built at San Diego for the British air ministry. The ship carried three crew members in addition to Rogers. It passed over Albuquerque and Kansas Kan-sas City and followed the Kansas City-Chicago airway beacon route into Illinois. Rogers planned to follow a route over Montreal and Quebec to Botwood, Bot-wood, Boy of Explots, Newfoundland, Newfound-land, 3,500 miles from San Diego and the only scheduled stop. |
