Show American All-Stars Defeat Nats, 3 to 1 Boh Feller Is Star YANKEE STADIUM, New York, July 11 (U.R) Aided by the home run bat of Joe DiiVhiKk'io and the fielding wiz-zardry wiz-zardry of little Joe Gordon, the American league all-stars defeated de-feated the National league, 3 to 1, today in their seventh annual game. The vvorid champion New York Yankees dominated this dream game of baseball today, except for a timely appearance of young Bob Feller of the Cleveland Lidians, who went into the game in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and fire-balled the National leaguers lino submission. submis-sion. Feller and ull the other American Ameri-can league pitchers owed a vote of thanks at sundown today to a little wraith in white who backed them up with two of the most dazzling daz-zling plays ever seen in any ball park Gordon of the Yankees. Nats Score First The National league scored first but. could not match the power and defensive skill of the American Ameri-can leaguers who had six members of the Yanks in their starting lineup. Arky Vaughn of the Pittsburgh Pirates opened the third inning with a single off Red Ruffing of the Yankees. Stanley Hack of the Cubs shot out a single that sent Vaughan to second. Little Lonnie Frey of the Reds then hit a double that sent Vaughan in with the first and last run that the National league got. In the fourth inning the American Ameri-can leaguers reached Bill Lee of the Cubs for two quick tallies. Hank Greenberg- of the Detroit Tigers shammed a single to left . after Bill Dickey of the Yankees ' had walked. Then George Selkirk, of the Yankees hit one on the line to right field. Goodman Injured Ival Goodman of the Reds came running in for the ball and fell heavily on his shoulder. That was a. costly 10 seconds for Goodman seriously injured his shoulder on the play and was taken to a hospital hos-pital to be X-rayed to determine whether he had suffered a broken collar-bone. Dickey scored on Selkirk's hit and Greenberg went to third. Then Gordon bounced a hot one down to Short. Vaughan juggled the ball and dropped it. Greenberg raced home with another run and Gordon Gor-don was safe at first. That was all the scoring for that Inning for the American leaguers, and, with the way their pitchers were working, it was all they needed. But Joe DiMaggio decided to sew things up in the fifth inning and clubbed out a home run.
