Show BALL SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED HERE I Officially opening the 1939 soft-ball soft-ball season, city officials welcomed welcom-ed a large crowd of local and out of town people at the ball park, Tuesday night. Mayor A. O. Thorn, Ed Johnson, John-son, member of the city council and parks committee, and Lewis I Clegg, president of the Utah Cen-! Cen-! tral League gave short talks in 1 which they encouraged the fans to continue their support of the local team. i Kolob Lumber company girls played the opening game with ; Dcnnie's Own girls of Provo. The game ended in an 8 to 1 victory for the local girls. In the first inning,, the local girls made four runs for a lead which they held the remainder of the game. The Provo team got its only run in the third inning. The . Springville team played Heber in the first home game of the season, resulting in a victory vic-tory for Heber. Both teams played play-ed good ball, and the highlight of the game came in the second inning when Mower hit the first ball for a home run. In the third inning, Montgomery for Heber, made a hit that drove in two runs. The sixth inning was entirely en-tirely uneventful, with both teams going down in one-two-three order. or-der.
