Show NEWS BRIEFS j A drive for old clothes to be remodeled at the sewing center and distributed through the church relief plan, is being launched launch-ed this week, and anyone having used clothing is asked to have it clean and ready when members of the priesthood call. If the boys fail to call and you have clothing, cloth-ing, please send it to the sewing center on the second story of the Mendenhall bank building. Miss Naomi Maycock, daughter of Mrs. Lena Maycock of this city, has been released from her duties in the mission field and plans to return home in the very near future, according to word received here. Solon A. Wood is recovering from an operation for appendicitis appendi-citis which he underwent Saturday Satur-day at Dr. George A. Anderson's hospital. Leonard J. Gabbitas of the United States Navy, is on a 10 days' leave of absence from the U. S. S. Perkins at San Diego, Calif., and is visiting his mother, Mrs. Ina Gabbitas, and other relatives and friends in Springville. Spring-ville. Mrs. A. B. Gore is reported improving im-proving from a serious illness at the L. D. S. hospital in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Martha Whiting, a member mem-ber of the Utah county planning board, Monday demonstrated the making of bread before a group of neighbor women at the home of Mrs. Ethel Phillips. Similar demonstrations can be arranged for any group of women who desire by contacting the Relief Society or communicating with President Hannah M. Clyde, of the Relief Society stake board. The Fourth Ward Relief Society So-ciety recently purchased a lovely painting by our home-town artist, V. O. Hafen. It was presented to the organization as a part of the Mother's day observance, under un-der the direction of President Jennie P. Clyde. A special assembly in honor of Harold Alleman and Wayne Johnson, who are retiring from the teaching profession after 40 and 42 years of continuous teaching, teach-ing, respectively, is being held at the high school, at 10:30 a. m., Friday. All school patrons arc cordially invited to attend. M. Manwaring is recovering at a lleb.ir City hospilal. from an accident in which he suffered a fractured rib while oiling machinery ma-chinery at a construction camp near that city. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alleman, Miss Floss Harmer. Miss Arlene Mendenhall and Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Mendenhall were among the Springville people who attended funeral services for N. K.
